Grey is the color

Grey House pays tribute to a Houston legacy: the grey-and-white Arts-and-Crafts bungalows neighboring the renowned Menil Collection museum. During the 1960s, the de Menil family (longtime River Oaks residents) bought the houses as an urban oasis for artists, writers and musicians. They were painted grey in 1974 to set off the lush green landscape. The Menil, completed in 1987 by Renzo Piano, shares the same striking hue as the grey houses-now known as "Menil grey."
